Our StoryKeeping legacy film process is uniquely crafted to capture the most authentic, meaningful content from your favorite storyteller. We'd like to take this opportunity to reveal how we preserve human presence, honor voice and personality, and reveal family history through life stories. Future generations benefit from the thought and energy we put into each step of Pre-Production, Production, Post-Production, and Delivery.

You know you want to preserve your family stories in a legacy film, but how do you tell your parents or grandparents you want them to be filmed? StoryKeeping helps you communicate the opportunity so the storyteller not only understands but is excited to get started. What topics should your parents be talking about in this family documentary? StoryKeeping knows what makes a meaningful legacy film. We pick your brain about why this person is so lovable. We learn why you're passionate about documenting their story so we can best guide these filmed conversations, and love to know what you feel are their very best stories. We help determine the best location for filming the interview. We also help you think through what we might work into your film like family photos, VHS tapes, or important places we should also be filming.

This is when your parents' living room becomes a movie set (minus all the distracting, noisy crew members) in a matter of a few hours of setup. One of the most memory-inducing experiences of a lifetime unfolds conversationally and all their glorious energy is expertly captured. The movie set fades from consciousness. A loving approach, intent listening, and savvy follow-up guides their storytelling brain through a full range of information and emotion. Laughter. Expressions. Linguistic cadence. Familiar mannerisms present themselves as we gracefully invite the specific stories you know you'll always want, plus all the stories our process brings back to life from decades of dormancy. Neurons fire. Synapses connect. A legacy is captured. When the interview has settled, the movie set is disassembled and packed up in a couple hours time. The most precious cargo, your loved one's story, is carefully transported back to the StoryKeeping headquarters.

The first act of post-production is moving all those precious stories off the cameras and audio equipment memory cards onto our editing machine. After the data is backed up to a cloud storage service we breathe easier knowing even if something happens to Clinton, your loved one's stories are safe and sound. Their story has been captured.
Once the project files are set up, we focus on tweaking the aesthetics of the imagery so your favorite storyteller looks their absolute best. Then we turn our ears to the audio post-processing until it sounds exactly like it sounded in their living room. During Pre-Production and Production we learn their story. During Post-Production we become students of their story. We pore over the entire interview. We note what we feel and when. We study the energy from their eyes the way your subconscious has all your life. We get to know and love them like family.
We believe every second of story has value, so we process each and every one. If the storyteller misspoke at any point we follow the golden rule and delete their mistakes. Tasteful editing preserves the speech patterns you recognize and love while removing filler and flubs we know the storyteller would appreciate. Something briefly mentioned near the start of the interview, and the more in-depth context delivered deeper into the conversation, is thoughtfully packaged into the same chapter. Post-Production is an opportunity to achieve clarity to benefit future generations. Each story told is organized into an appropriate chapter culminating in an archive of stories. This is the movie library you wish you had for all your ancestry.
A StoryKeeping Feature is the pinnacle of legacy films, as we weave the experience into a single film that helps you feel their energy, cheer for their story, and want to carry on their values for generations to come. Properly licensed music complements the feel of their stories. Family photos add context. Aerial cinematography gives perspective to the importance of the family home. Slow motion imagery of the portraits she hung in the hallway will be passed down even after the house is sold. They gave everything they had so we could have something better. So we put everything we have into this film honoring their legacy.

The moment you've been waiting for is here. Your grandparents' stories have been captured, chaptered, and treasured on a level past generations never had and no one ever imagined before. Tangible drives carefully packaged into miniature treasure chests make the effort feel real even when the movies aren't playing. Digital links enable you to share their story with everyone who loves them no matter how near or far life has taken them. Your work here is done.
You can now relax in the sweet relief of knowing no matter what tomorrow brings, you and your family will always be able to connect with your parents' energy and stories. Belonging to something greater than themselves, descendants of your family will always know where they came from, who they are, and what they're capable of becoming because of this one, thoughtful, multi-generational gift. Money and things of this world go away, but their spirit is worth keeping and celebrating time and time again. You have captured their legacy.

Clinton Haby is a legacy filmmaking pioneer who has been establishing and elevating the legacy film industry since 2009. Recognizing his retelling of his grandparents' stories was a disservice to their spirit, Clinton sought to capture their energy and stories in the magic of the first person perspective. Initially, Clinton was his own client. With no template to follow, creating a legacy film business from scratch was a long and difficult path, but listening to client desires and studying all the areas of specialization that go into this work made StoryKeeping a sustainable business. Clinton is fascinated by people, intrigued by what makes them tick, and loves helping folks talk through everything that makes life worthwhile.
